Principal
Dear Winfield School District 34 Community,
I am honored and excited to be your new Principal. Winfield is a unique community committed to fostering a supportive and enriching learning environment for all students. I am eager to collaborate with students, parents, teachers, and staff to continue the district's tradition of excellence.
This district is unique because we build strong personal relationships with each student and can connect with each family. Knowing our kids as well as we do allows us to personalize learning by enhancing our children's strengths and targeting their growth areas. We will continue to work collaboratively to help students discover and experience the appropriate learning challenges to achieve learning growth.
My journey to the principal position has been unique, and it equips me to make a significant, positive impact on all our students. I started my career as a middle school social studies teacher. I was always that teacher taking on extra roles and building unique programming with my colleagues to give my students multiple opportunities to learn and grow. After teaching for several years, I had a remarkable opportunity to teach internationally, spending two years each in South Korea and Honduras. This experience was transformative, emphasizing the importance of understanding each student's background, culture, and individuality.
Additionally, I was an early adopter of technology in my classrooms. This led to multiple new opportunities and diverse roles, including Technology Facilitator, Director of Technology and Innovation, and Leadership Executive for Apple Education. While I strongly believe in the power of technology, I know it is critical to be intentional and think deeply about when it can enhance learning and how it presents challenges when not implemented well. My experiences have allowed me to learn from education leaders nationwide, and I am eager to share these connections and best practices with our community.
This opportunity brings me back to my roots, allowing me to be part of a community again after helping many others throughout my career. My wife and I share five kids in a blended family, ranging in age from 15 to 20. They are everything to us. We continue to strive to be our best as a family, and joining the Winfield School District 34 community is an excellent opportunity for all of us.
Sincerely,
Scott Meech
