WELCOME TO MUSIC CLASS!
In music class, students will be engaged in a variety of activities, including singing, listening, moving in time with music, and playing musical instruments. We also play a number of music-themed games that teach students about music in different ways. In 4th grade, students learn to play the recorder, and in 5th grade, students have the opportunity to join band and learn to play a wind band instrument (flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, percussion). Students also have the opportunity to be in drama class (grades 1, 2, 4, and 5) and guitar (grades 6, 7, and 8).
BAND REGISTRATION
Joining band is an exciting and enriching experience; I'm glad you're here! Here is the registration form (updated Fall 2024). Please see this letter (updated Fall 2024) for information regarding instrument rentals and the beginning of the year. Please let Ms. Templin know if you have any questions or if you need any assistance!
DAILY MATERIALS FOR BAND AND GUITAR
Band students need to bring their instrument, music book, and music folder (grade 6-8) to school every time they have band. At times, students will also be asked to bring their school-provided iPad to band. Band students should take their instrument and music home to practice at home. If you or your student ever has questions about what to practice, please let Ms. Templin know!
Guitar students need to bring their school-provided iPad to every class. The school provides guitars and guitar picks for use in the classroom for students enrolled in the guitar elective.
BAND CONCERTS
All concerts are at 7:00pm in the gym at Winfield Central School, unless otherwise announced. Dress for band concerts is formal. Performing is a vital part of being a musician, and these concerts allow us the opportunity to do this. Additionally, in order for a musical ensemble to perform best, every member needs to be present and working as a team. Concerts are required for all band students, and students who cannot attend should notify Ms. Templin with as much advance notice as possible. If a student is unable to perform at a concert for any reason, there will be a make-up assignment given. If you or your child would like to volunteer to help with a band concert, let Ms. Templin know. We move equipment down to the gym after school on concert day, and also have one or two volunteers help supervise middle school students from 6:40pm-7:00pm. See below for concert dates:
